Es mucho m\u00e1s que eso: est\u00e1 vinculado a nuestra identidad, a nuestro sentido de pertenencia, e involucra sistemas neurobiol\u00f3gicos.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Lo cierto es que cuando nos sentimos \u00fatiles, el cerebro responde activando el sistema de recompensa, regulando los niveles de estr\u00e9s y reforzando nuestra identidad social. Este \u00faltimo aspecto est\u00e1 asociado a la evoluci\u00f3n humana, ya que, durante gran parte de nuestra historia, la supervivencia se ha vinculado a la capacidad de contribuir al grupo.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 necesitamos sentirnos \u00fatiles?<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Seg\u00fan la Teor\u00eda de la Autodeterminaci\u00f3n\u00b9, de Edward Deci y Richard Ryan, los seres humanos tenemos tres necesidades psicol\u00f3gicas b\u00e1sicas:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list {\"ordered\":true} -->\n<ol><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Autonom\u00eda\u00b9;<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Competencia\u00b9;<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Pertenencia\u00b9.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ol>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>En este contexto, sentirse \u00fatil refuerza la idea de que somos competentes y relevantes para el grupo. En otras palabras, satisface dos de las tres necesidades b\u00e1sicas: competencia y pertenencia.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, es importante recordar que, a lo largo de la evoluci\u00f3n, los humanos nos hemos consolidado como una especie profundamente cooperativa.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Dado que somos seres sociales por naturaleza, la exclusi\u00f3n del grupo activa \u00e1reas del cerebro similares a las que se activan con el dolor f\u00edsico. En el art\u00edculo <em>Why rejection hurts: A common neural alarm system for physical and social pain<\/em>, Naomi Eisenberger y Matthew Lieberman demostraron que el rechazo social activa la corteza cingulada anterior y la \u00ednsula anterior, regiones tambi\u00e9n asociadas con el dolor f\u00edsico\u00b2.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Por lo tanto, si la exclusi\u00f3n causa dolor, podemos entender que sentirse \u00fatil e integrado en el grupo funciona como una forma de protecci\u00f3n contra este dolor social.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Activaci\u00f3n de los circuitos de recompensa<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Como se mencion\u00f3 anteriormente, cuando nos sentimos \u00fatiles, el cerebro responde activando los circuitos de recompensa. Una de las formas m\u00e1s comunes en que experimentamos este sentimiento es a trav\u00e9s de conductas prosociales, como las donaciones.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>En el estudio <em>Human fronto-mesolimbic networks guide decisions about charitable donation<\/em>, el neurocient\u00edfico brasile\u00f1o Jorge Moll utiliz\u00f3 pruebas de neuroimagen para demostrar que, al donar, activamos el \u00e1rea tegmental ventral, el n\u00facleo accumbens y la corteza prefrontal medial. Estas mismas regiones tambi\u00e9n se activan cuando recibimos recompensas monetarias\u00b3.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Por lo tanto, podemos entender que el cerebro \"recompensa\" la contribuci\u00f3n. Cuando somos \u00fatiles, se activan circuitos asociados con la dopamina, lo que refuerza la motivaci\u00f3n para repetir la conducta.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Identidad y significado<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>No es nuevo que los seres humanos necesitemos significado e identidad. Cuando contribuimos, accedemos a una de las principales fuentes de significado.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>En su libro <em>El hombre en busca de sentido<\/em>, el psiquiatra y neur\u00f3logo austriaco Viktor Frankl argumenta que somos capaces de soportar diversas situaciones, incluido el sufrimiento extremo, cuando encontramos un prop\u00f3sito, un \"por qu\u00e9\" que sustenta la experiencia\u2074.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>En este sentido, cuando nos sentimos \u00fatiles, fortalecemos nuestra percepci\u00f3n interna de valor personal. No se trata solo de hacer algo, sino de darnos cuenta de que nuestra existencia tiene un impacto.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Utilidad: estr\u00e9s y salud mental<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Cuando nos sentimos \u00fatiles, esta experiencia no es solo moment\u00e1nea. Puede generar beneficios duraderos, contribuyendo a la reducci\u00f3n de los niveles de estr\u00e9s y al fomento de la salud mental.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>La neurocient\u00edfica estadounidense Patricia Boyle demostr\u00f3 en su investigaci\u00f3n que la sensaci\u00f3n de tener un prop\u00f3sito se asocia con un menor riesgo de deterioro cognitivo y una menor mortalidad a lo largo del tiempo\u2075.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>De igual manera, la psic\u00f3loga ruso-estadounidense Sonja Lyubomirsky demostr\u00f3 que las conductas prosociales, como contribuir y ayudar, impactan positivamente en los niveles de bienestar y, cuando se practican de forma constante, pueden reducir los s\u00edntomas depresivos\u2076.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Adem\u00e1s de la activaci\u00f3n de los circuitos de recompensa, que implican la liberaci\u00f3n de dopamina, sentirse \u00fatil tambi\u00e9n se asocia con la liberaci\u00f3n de oxitocina, una hormona vinculada a la conexi\u00f3n social y las conductas prosociales. Estudios recientes indican que la oxitocina desempe\u00f1a un papel relevante en la motivaci\u00f3n social y la sensibilidad hacia el sufrimiento ajeno\u2077.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>As\u00ed, la utilidad no solo genera placer inmediato, sino que tambi\u00e9n regula las emociones, fortalece v\u00ednculos y contribuye a una sensaci\u00f3n de seguridad social.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Utilidad y productividad no son lo mismo<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Si bien es com\u00fan asociar utilidad con productividad, es esencial distinguir estos conceptos. La productividad se relaciona con el rendimiento y la obtenci\u00f3n de resultados. La utilidad, por otro lado, se vincula con el impacto relacional y la percepci\u00f3n de relevancia social.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Si la utilidad fuera solo productividad, los segmentos de la poblaci\u00f3n que no est\u00e1n en el mercado laboral ser\u00edan incapaces de ser \u00fatiles. Sin embargo, esto no se corresponde con la realidad. La respuesta del cerebro se asocia m\u00e1s con la percepci\u00f3n de impacto y pertenencia que exclusivamente con el rendimiento.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>La percepci\u00f3n de utilidad va m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de una respuesta qu\u00edmica. Es tambi\u00e9n una construcci\u00f3n simb\u00f3lica que depende de la historia individual, la relaci\u00f3n entre biolog\u00eda y cultura, y c\u00f3mo cada persona interpreta su propia contribuci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Quiz\u00e1s, por lo tanto, no necesitemos producir m\u00e1s para sentirnos mejor.
